Do you already have a prima engine? If you could live with two wheel drive it may be easier to find a Sherpa 200 series engine and box
 
We already have a Sherpa engine but I like your idea. If all else fails on the search for an adapter plate then I will look for a gear box.

Do landrover early boxes mount straight up?

if not remove the rear output in the Sherpa box & fit the LR transfer box. Think the gears are longer as most are 4 speed

Hicap phill, not sure what you mean in your reply, I want to fit a Perkins Prima engine that I have into a series Land rover using the series gearbox.

Many thanks Adrian. I looked at the post and yes it is the right engine but I rather think RedGrouse will now be keeping the whole setup.
Just an update.
I have followed several adapter plates and a complete engine and box but I always seem to come second but I am still trying.

There is a perkins 4236 turbo with lr gearbox out of a classic range rover on facebook marketplace in london for a grand

Steve, I've got a perkins prima engine in my garage which came out of a S3 - I assume the adapter plate fits a series gearbox but would need to check to be 100% sure - I've plenty of series boxes to try it on.
I'd been planning to sell it either complete or as parts so am sure we could come to some sort of arrangement if it's what you need.

many moons ago I fitted a Montego turbo D....which is the same thing....in to a 90 using sherpa van bits. You could change your series gearbox to LT77 with LT230 and it will all bolt up.....possibly, maybe, ish :)
