Hi.
My defender manual just failed its MOT on emissions.
Apparently its overfueling. (Goes like sh!t off a shovel though)
So I have been told that I need a new 300tdi injector pump.
Apparently EBay ones are often not of the best quality, so I thought I would ask you guys for help ?

I got one, came from a perfectly running 300tdi with 126 k miles. Yours for £50. I'm in Southampton. PM me if interested mate.

Im not sure to be honest. Its the garage doing it.
I will ask him.
I am tempted to have it back, get some guidance from this forum on how to tune it down and put it in for a re-test. Its obviously in the garages interest to fit a new fuel pump £££s

by emissions do they mean the smoke output or the contents of the smoke ? you should only be tested on the smoke output shouldn't you ?

Well the contents of the exhaust fumes, I thought that was just for petrol and derv was just visual

Is (or was) the pump on factory settings or did you (or someone else) tweek it?

If you can, put it back to factory settings, and go from there. When did you last change the air filter?

Yes the garage will want to do the pump, as they will do the belt, probably tell you that you need the tensioner upgrade etc etc..........probably not much change from a grand with a recon pump.

Garage said it had been tweaked on the diaphram - They put that back to standard.

Then they wound down the fuel screw untill there was no power in the engine at all.

Choppertrash. You have PM. I will call you after I finish work. I presume the pump you have is the throttle cable type as apposed to fly by wire ?

Is putting a new pump on within the remit of a reasonably skilled DIY mechanic ?
