The cone filter is noisy so I want to replace it but not much space after 200Tdi and remote servo. Any photos or suggestions please? Cone filter at bottom right.

300 air filter housing in front wing behind headlamp and the filter housing trumpet cut through inner wing just in front of the headlamp
Seen it on a s3 I thought it was quite neat and almost invisible

yours looks neat, Mines fitted as a DI but I wanted to keep, the oil, bath filter and a battery in same place ish ( the battery is about 60A and sits in a shortened battery tray

Thanks chaps it is good to see alternative set-ups. As far as the cone filter goes it seems to be the consensus of opinion that they are noisier?

Cruder the filter the louder the intake roar will be.
Lots of design goes into intake systems these days.

thanks! Still debating what to do.can you give me the height of the oil bath filter please? I have a D1 300Tdi air filter box and hose but finding a place fo it is difficult.

Is the risk of the engine consuming the oil in the oil bath and revving to destruction overplayed? I need to replace the stupid cone on mine as well.

Oil air filters while good in their day are not as good at filtering the air as a modern paper element tests show. Turbos need clean air to last, even small particles building up on the vanes cause imbalance.
An oil bath filter in good order will remove 95% of particles while paper does 98.5% when new with the performance improving to 99% and over with some use. This info comes from the Tractor world where good filtering is needed for engine life and performance
Oil costs have gone up over time while the price of making quality paper elements has gone down.
Disadvantage of oil unit is you have to mount it vertical. Paper can be fitted at any angle.

Just been looking at the Massey Ferguson oil bath filters (half the price of LR) and slightly smaller, anyone used a tractor filter?
