whats the views on doing the whole console etc with walnut ? or to leave it be as standard on a dse, is it good to do or not and deemed a good improvement, or is it seen as a bit tat like and should be left standard if it wasnt factory ?

was browsing ebay for a cubby box lid with cup holders and saw the walnut kits and to do the whole dash

not in a rush to change anything but just spending time getting to know the cars and the different things about the models and looking about for extras and options for improvent

The real thing is much better than the stick on. The are fine for a while until they get hot and start to change colour or partially peel off.
Have most Autobiography bits in if your interested.

As R.R.B. says don't touch the stick on stuff - you get what you pay for.

I was down buying some wheels of RRB a few weeks ago and saw the stuff in the parts area. Nice stuff, and the friendly advice on how to keep her on the road has already come in handy. I'd take his advice if I were you.

nice one thanks thats cleared that up, i didnt realise there was genuine walnut parts and stick on, thought it was all stick on, and definatly wouldnt want to cause long term harm and peeling etc no way !!

but in general...is it deemed good to upgrade to walnut all inside on a model that did not have it as standard, or best to leave it factory ?

I changed the clock and switches surround and the window switch pack to walnut,looks much better,i wouldnt do the cuddy lid tho i think thats too much.

its not genuine walnut (its still plastic) but they are land rover standerd and alot better than the stick on crap
in my opinion the cubby box lid looks loads better in colour coded leather

Sorry but the genuine Autobiography parts are genuine walnut. The vogue parts however, are not genuine walnut. They are made from exactly the same stuff as every gear surround fitted, namely fake walnut.
That said, when you have a complete set of Vogue bits in your car they look superb. They have leather gearknob, handbrake and cubby lids fitted.
The higher spec Vogues hav navigation, the Autobiography's do not. Overfinch did a walnut nav system but land rover didnt.
At the end of the day its personal choice but give me real walnut any day.

A leather cubby lid is a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion...remain to be convinced by the wood cubby lids as the only ones I've seen have been stick-on over the basic "leather look" plastic lids and they look rubbish. Suspect a real one is probably a touch OTT, whereas the leather definitely looks good. I personally feel the same about the handbrake lever and shifter knob...leather good, wood bordering on naff/OTT.

You have to be very careful about some of the P38 wood trim for sale on eBay. Sometimes the sellers "forget" to mention it's stick-on stuff and are very careful about the angle they photograph the bits from...and/or use a variety of euphemisms such as "walnut effect" etc. Almost got ripped off myself by a carefully photographed bit of trim in that way.

Having said that I reckon the stick on stuff can work well on the air vents, speedo unit, radio and HEVAC unit. It will never look good on the electric window switch panel, the front upper console and anything else that's not fairly flat and recessed (so you can't see the edges).

But some of the bits you get in a full stick-on kit are just plain wrong: binnacle around the speedo, interior door handles, trim around door lock pins etc.

Finally there's a Range Rover specialist breakers in Ramsgate that sub-contracts out to a guy who (presumably) airbrushes anything hard plastic with a very convincing wood effect. There's also someone else in the Midlands who similarly "veneers" shifter and handbrake handles and advertises on eBay from time to time. The work of both looks excellent in the eBay listings, but the prices fully reflect the time, skill and effort of the workmanship - I'm being realistically diplomatic...I'd never pay those prices myself, but they are clearly cheaper than a Land Rover dealer and I can see how they can be justified.

I have collected just about most of the wooden bits for my P38 now. nearly all of it is the proper Autobiography trims, with only a couple of the stick-on stuff (front vents). I contacted a "stick-on" supplier from ebay, as they list different colour options and although they sell individual dark walnut colour parts, they wouldn't sell me individual light walnut parts and insisted that I had to buy the complete kit . great, thanks!

Hold yer horses there cowboy, I have fake plastic parts in mine, and after 7 years they still look good have not faded or come unstuck, in fact they look great, you can now get Italian leather instead of the wood, like door card center panels ect

yes, if I can't buy the last couple of "proper" trim pieces, I shall have to buy the stick-on stuff, even if the colour is different, but then again so are the door and glovebox trims.

I covered the center consul in leather and stitched it, dyed it gray, the original cup holder was cream, did that about 4 years ago, and that looks good too
