Hi, i have a 300tdi with a snorkel, i was wondering what technique other people have when wading. either on paved roads or off road, with the water up above the headlight, maybe just up to the bonnet, that kinda depth if that makes any difference. i know you should go fast enough to create a bow wave but what gear do you tend to use and high or low ratio?

Second low for me too. You are better off in too lower a gear when wading than too high a gear. If the gear is too high risk stalling.

2nd low is what i thought, what i use when im off road just crossing fords, not too deep. i was just thinking more along the lines as if im going down a flooded road, it seems like 2nd low is bit slow. but thats why i was asking anyway, thanks for your help
 
Slow is best. During the floods There were loads of ****ers flying down flooded streets and forcing the water into peoples houses while they were trying to keep it out. One guy in Hull got dragged out of his shogun by a crowd of very angry residents. and nearly got drowned by em.
 
I went thru a flood in 2nd hi and it didn't like it much felt like it was going to stall on me. good fun though [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Cqx8xkvO7s"]YouTube - Discovery 300tdi through flood[/ame]
 
the only problem i had was water filling the lights up as there is no seal at the back of them. i had water past the wiper arms on the window though lol
