Evening all

I've never worried too much before but we're off to Whaddon in a few weeks and I don't really want to ruin anything. I read about wading plugs but are these needed on TD5s? I have got breathers on both axles, gearbox and transfer box all running up to the snorkel except one - I think front axle, which goes up to bulkhead.

When I last looked at the ECU the compartment was bone dry, unlike the rest of the interior.

Any wading advice greatfully received!

Cheers
Tom.

Try to avoid muddy deep water, or ull be needing a new alternator, td5s have been known to have problems after.

Last year I was in a td5 defender when we went through a run of muddy water, came out with the battery light on, then was told that it wasn't the best idea to do that with a td5.. New alternator, starter motor and jet wash inside and out was needed after :(

Anyway! Take it easy and u should be fine :), make sure you got the snorkel, breather kit and plugs in, all sealed nicely and lots of grease.

If ur going on the 26th of this month? I'll see you there :)

Thanks! What plugs need to be in, that's what I was confused about. I think we're going about 10th may

Ebay defender td5 wading plugs and you should find them, do a search in the defender area on where the holes are, as I don't know ;)

Wading plugs are around 4quid for a set :)

Noticed this on the defender today, which the disco doesn't have. Is it a wading plug? If it is then it's always been there!

I wouldent risk my TD5 in deep water , they arnt exactly sealed inside and the ecu is mighty low ....

so that's why I have my yellow TDI :)

ive had my td5 over the bonnet wading many times and never had a problem with it, maybe different if you are sat in deep water not moving

Yup me too. Had mine over the bonnet doing strata in the winter.

To the OP, there is a fred on ere about waterproofing your TD5. relays underseat need swapping for waterproof items and silicone your ECU together etc.
