Hello folks, newbie alert. I have a 1986 land rover defender 90 diesel and going to ask a really dumb question (so slap my thigh and tell me I'm stupid) but I can't find the wading plug on this beastie!

Dumber than you think. Its a Ninety, not a Defender,

Wading plug hole is on bottom of belhousing, plug in toolkit. Another on timing case, plug may be parked in threaded hole next to drain hole.

Hi @swamp bucket

What engine you got? You probably have two, one at the bottom of the timing cover and one at the bottom of the bell housing. That is if they are fitted, you may just have threaded holes.

Cheers

They shouldnt be fitted, will likely fill bellhousing and cover with oil, and or water, over time.

Funny how we get our knickers in a twist over people calling 90/110's Defenders yet we happily refer to all original Range Rovers built between 1970 and 1996 Range Rover Classics, when this name was only attributed in 1994 and no body at all refers to TD5 Discoverys as Series II's.
It's a funny old world.

Haha don't worry I saw an empty thread hole on my bell housing and panicked only to be delicately informed on here what it was and not to worry. You got to ask or you'll never know.

I had the same panic a few days ago when having a rummage under by 300tdi Defender!

Funny, I let out a little nugget the first time is was under my disco and saw a hole in the bell housing didn't realise it was supposed to be like that. So popped into the local land rover specialist and sheepishly ask why is there a hole in the bell housing.
