Hi All,

Hoping someone here can help me out as my searching is proving fruitless, and its becoming tedious.

I'm installing a new breather kit to my 1991 3.5L V8 defender 110. Axle breathers - no problem got. Transfer box and gear box, also fine.

Timing case - don't need one here, as its a V8??? or is there an alternative? not sure, please help.

Bellhousing - do I need one here? where is it? any pictures?

I don't know anything about your engine and gearbox im afraid, but on the diesels it's not a breather in the bell housing, it's a plug in the hole at the bottom.
 
I wouldnt bother with either by the time it gets to point or needing them in the v8 your engine will have cut out numerous times

Megasquirt is what u need to do playing in water in a v8
Yes u can wrap the distributor etc, buy decent leads,go yo the waste of time of injecting air into the dist cap and all the other things that people will suggest all will help slightly

But ultimately its a v8 and it dont do water, been there done that

Megasquirt will give you capabilities of a doozil in water
 
Thanks for the responses.

I may well be going the mega-squirt route, as I know of the issues with V8's and water. But for now I'm trying to plumb in the breathers as I have them and its in bits, engine is out next.

I know where the timing case and bellhousing breathers are on a diesel, just can't seem to locate them on the V8.

Anyone else help?

I have found two threaded holes at the very bottom of the bellhousing (which are fully of mud and slush) very close together would these be them? I'll get some pics....
 
As already mentioned ! It's going to conk out before you need all that kit. I used to run a 2.5 petrol and never put a snorkel on it for that very reason !
 
The one hole is the drain hole and the other is the stowage for the drain hole plug , there is no breather as its sealed . And non MS V8 will go thru considerable depth of water if prepped properly ......got the t shirt etc

Like i said up top been there done it in a competion spec 4.2v8 bobtail no matter what u do to the v8 it will Never go thru wot a doozil will, hence why i sold it just couldnt compete with the doozils in the challenges and i didnt have the money to ms it
 
Thanks guys, that's cleared that up.

I plan to waterproof as much as possible and just see how it goes, not looking at sub mariner stuff, just a little deeper than 500mm.

I'll let you all know how I get on - sink or swim.....
 
Have to agree have driven a series 11a diesel with water at level of dashboard , but also my 110 V8 has been thru a still depth just below top of 285 tyres during creek crossings :eek::)
