I've just noticed that the sump on the VVC is different in that the stud holes for the lower engine support bracket used on the FL are blank on the VVC sump. Also if you swap the FL g'box, clutch arrangement over to enable the IRD to be fitted will you need to swap the flywheel over too. You would likely need the VVC's one. Does that make sense?

Advice please?

The sump has 2 options. 1 use the Freelander sump or 2 drill and tap the blanks in the VVC sump to accept the Freelander's tie bar.
The flywheel is more interesting. I think they are both the same. If they are different, the Freelander flywheel is the one to use, but check the sensor reluctor ring has the same pickup pattern first. It's worth check the crank sensor for type. Some are inductive and some are the later hall effect type.
I suspect the sensor is the same type so is compatible.

Hall effect crank sensor will not work with an inductive type ECU.

Had the same issues with my turbo.swap, and had to get another ECU

Hi guys.
Im thinking of getting the same conversion done.
I've got a chance at buying a fl1 with a knackered engine (1.8)
And i currently drive a rather battered mgf vvc. The bodywork makes the car worth naff all. So what ecus do i need to take out the mgf? The mgfs alarm and immobiliser has been disabled so should accept the fl1 one.
How did the conversion go in the end?

ECUs - engine, security [it's red & the key fobs to go with it ] I got the black box of the back of the fuse box too. If I can find a 1.8 FL1 cheap enough I'll have a go at fitting the VVC 134 motor to that.
