Hi all ...just trading in my freelander 2 GS which i've loved for a Vogue SE ...
the wife wanted a RR sport ,but fell in love with the vogue when she drove it .

Anyway what i'm after in the thread that i couldn't seem to find on a search is about a towbar for this Vogue SE ....
I've been told that it's going to cost a small fortune to install a towbar ....i know your better to have the dedicated electrics pack and want a detachable swan neck ...but have also been informed that this model will have the bar onto the rear chassis on it already ....is this true ?????

The L322 will have mounts on the rear subframe to fit the 'beam' that goes across the back of the Range Rover and the detachable swan neck fits to this....

Cheers guys for the advice ...... any more photo's people have of hidden tow bars and which ones will be great .....

so to clarify it's still going to cost £600-700 with dedicated electrics ?

I bought the complete kit from these, very helpful and best price although I wanted the flange type rather than swan neck
This westfalia kit is all OEM and the electric kit included the genuine ECU that you need. I have all the info somewhere and pretty easy to fit although the subframe us chuffing heavy. I fitted the latest connector as well

This link is for the genuine Westfalia removable type which includes the complete subframe, socket that bolts in place and the removable neck. The removable neck and socket second hand still sell for around £200 alone.

This is only for 2002 -2005 models although they do have the kits for later models.

I also purchased the latest 13 pin dedicated OEM westfalia wiring kit from the wiring kit page rather than the drop down options on the towbar page as they are cheaper and include the ECU that plugs straight into the wiring loom in the boot and tells the car to disable the EAS and other features regarding the lighting module.

The subframe fits in place of the existing irons that are fitted to the car, one of which incorporates the towing eye.

Have a look at this thread also as it shows the different types including the flange type i ordered as i wanted to remove it completely when not in use and also its height adjustable.

I fitted mine myself which is quite easy although the subframe is chuffing heavy and needed a couple of trolley jacks and the gasket you get with it is very thin and caused me to have a major water leak in the boot, see my post on the following link, and even since that post i have had another leak which can be cured by using a stop leak spray or mastic along the top of the where the subframe bracket meets the rear panel or rather than use the mastic strip just use a decent sealer like sikaflex seam sealer from a mastic gun.

I have a 2007 vogue se .....

i see there are afew different types out there and the wife wanting a detachable more hidden type as not really going to get much use ......Is there a preferred electrical pack ,as i see there are twin plugs , 13 pin and single plugs ....i'm alittle new to the art of towing ...
only really going to tow a small trailer or horse box ...
 
If you are just going to tow a trailer or horse box then a single 12N will do you.

The 13 pin connectors are for the newer style caravan connections and combine the 12N and 12S connectors into a single "more secure" type connector.

You may have not seen the youtube video below that was on a thread on one of my earlier links but shows the two different westaflia types which use the OEM type subframe.

The detachable swan neck looking type leave the socket behind that is bolted into the subframe so the socket is visible and there is a dedicated range rover storage box that can be purchased so the tow bar is hidden away in the boot. As this is bolted there is no play in the towbar. This type is also a bit more expensive than the flange type.

I have the flange type which is held into the subframe with a pin and R clip so the complete tow bar is removed and just leaves the socket behind which i then purchased the land Rover blanking plug to hide the hole which you see in my pic below. This type comes with the strong bag supplied and I strap mine to one of the load securing rings in the boot as its too big to fit in the storage box for the other type. As this is a sliding fit into the socket and just held in place by a single pin there is a little play in the towbar but i think they are still perfectly functional for your towing requirements but talk to PF Jones as they are the experts.

Regarding the electrics, you want the Westfalia type again i believe as think you still need the ECU but again check with PFJ. The 2010 range rover did away with the ECU and the vehicle itself was reprogrammed.

There is a link below to a site i found explaining the difference but as i understand there are two types of the older 7 pin, 12N and 12S, the N is for a normal trailer and does all the lights and the 12S was added for caravans that needed a supply to the fridge and reversing lights etc.

The later 13 pin euro type combines both in one plug and socket.
if you already have the trailer and horse box then it most likely will have the standard 12N 7 pin type so match that to the electrics but as i was only going to use mine with a trailer board i bought the trailer board with the 13 pin connector as i may get sad enough to want a caravan one day ( my dad has one)

You can select the electrics from the drop down list but the kit i wanted wasn't in the list so i chose mine off the separate wiring kits page.

As you can see i write the word 'think' quite a lot as i don't tow anything so check with PFJ so you get what you want and they were really good when i dealt with them and the price i paid for the subframe was about the same as rusty old second hand ones from latvia..

Whereabouts are you located?

I have for sale a genuine Westphalia "as new" (never mounted) 2006-on with removable hook, key, genuine LR electrics etc. All in top condition. Never used it as I sold the rangie early and my next one had one already fitted. Cost in PF Jones is c. £480. you can have it for a lot less!!
