hi guys just a quick one i have a 32mm spanner to remove fan nut left hand thread how do you stop it turning so i can put pressure on the nut to release it many thanks oh its a 300 tdi m reg
get yourself a strap wrench or a chain wrench to grip the pully.
Strap type is better as it wont mark pully. But you can use chain type just keep gradually adjusting it until it just grips, because if you apply too much pressure it'll bite into pully. Or you can get the correct special skinny open end **** spanner which may or maynot hold it without stripping the nut.
just put the spanner on the nut and hit it sharply,this may well be enough to shock it undone.

when i put the spanner on the nut just spins but i cant see anything else spinning

shock it... short sharp whacks wi the ommer
it is a fine thread,you sure it is not undone already.just try undoing it by hand.

never had problems wi getting mine off using the short sharp shock method
Maybe so, but strap wrench cost bugger all compared to the possible risks involved with the wack method.

if the shock method dont work without getting the sledge hammer out then obviously yes there are other methods

quick update just gave it a "tap" with the hammer and hey presto off it came thanks for all your help

tis easy when you know how isn't it.just like most things though.
no not yet nath,i have not tried yet,still undecided what to do,keep it or flog it.

I am glad it came off so easy. "One tap" just the one? I suggest it has been removed before then, and threadlocker not reapplied as in the original fitment.
It's your Motor you treat it as you wish, I woul rather do it with a strap wrench in the knowledge that unnecessary force has not been applied to the waterpump components.:doh:
