The defender viscous coupling ERR2266 fits the p38 DSE. I know 'cos I've fitted it.
The petrol p38 fan rotates the opposite way to a diesel so obviously is a different part.

The bolts on the diesel viscous unit have domed heads and are difficult to get off.
L/R obviously intended that you had to replace the whole thing with the fan.

Put it in a vice and use a centre punch and/or mole wrench to loosen the bolts.
I put the same bolts back in with loctite on the threads. I guess you could use ordinary bolts in their place as long as they are all the same to keep it in balance.
Also I paid less than 20 quid for my viscous unit.

on a diesel you will need a 32mm spanner or a cheaper option is to get on eBayI bought the correct viscous tool for less than £6 and then once the fan was removed sold both the tool and fan on eBay.

Now I have no Viscous fan :) easier access to other parts and my engine warms up faster - for cooling I have wired up the air-con fans to a thermo switch - simple and much less hassle

have already loosened the fan unit, came loose no probs. the bolts holding the fan on are hex key bolts and came loose pretty easy as well so looks like its been changed before at some point. The only thing is on rave it says to remove the top of the fan shroud, but on mine its in one complete piece, will i have enough room between the rad and the end of the waterpump to get the fan and shroud out in one.

The diesel shroud is in one piece and comes off with the fan.
I did a mod. I cut the top off with a band saw to make it easier next time it comes off.
I fabricated a couple of clips either side to hold the top bit in place. Works well.

Hi all just an update. Finally got my coupling yesterday after waiting three week for LRS Offroad to send one, Got the coupling for the 300TDI and i can confirm it does fit perfectly. so any one needing a new viscous coupling go for the 300tdi one as it's a lot cheaper than getting one for a 2.5 dse RR. Probably the same part from manufacturer but because it's for a range they think ££££.
