Just something else to go wrong, specified by vehicle manuf. for the sick lame & lazy, personally I don't have a problem moving a lever

I have a second hand lt230 transfer box out of a classic, (came free with gearbox) is it possible to just swap tranny boxes if/when my VCU fails?

Yes but it's a easier job to change the VCU.

There was a VCU rebuild vid on the youtube, some Latvian or Balkan fella, can't find it now.
