hi all, this is my first post so please be gentle with me. can anyone give me any info on good/bad suppliers of v/cs as mine has just gone and the quote i got locally was a joke. i have had a look at a couple of places, ashcroft transmissions and island 4x4, and there prices are a lot lower than i was given. any advice would be a big help, cheers.

Never used Ashcroft, but Island 4x4 have always been very fast, helpful and reliable the several times I've used them if thats of any help.

Paddocks are another good one but there VCU is a lot more expensive than Island

Or theres a VCU here if your an flebay fan.. Link £215

Methos.

cheers methos. had a look on ebay, think i'll stick to a new one rather than recon, peace of mind an all that plus i need the bearings and island do the lot as far as i can see. thanks again, marchy.

Hi there,
Hope the link below works, first time I've tried posting a link.
I did some shopping around and GCE uk supply a new VCU unit for 290 ex vat.

They also had the bearings but I got them cheaper at Island 4x4 with some other stuff. (IRD  and service kit ;) )

Both are e-bay shops. I've used Island 4x4 before and they were great.
As for GCU it took 8 days to get to me in Greece which is real good going for where I live.
Still waitng for my Island bits (ordered same day) to arrive but delays are usually due to the lousy Greek Couriers who sit around for days before delivering things  .

Hope it goes well.

What you working on then?

What you working on then?

I'm gonna need a couple of these done soon, drivers side is getting quite noisy now, they are half the price on GCE's ebay shop than my local Partco, and about a bank loan's difference from the main LR dealer

Also needing both bearings for the VCU front one isn't too bad buct the back ones shot...

Just need some decent weather....:p wonder if theres any ebayers selling a can of that :D

Cheers,

Methos.

Ah, now thats intersting
What noise are you getting with the anti roll bar links?
For months now I've been hearing and feeling a knock over speed bumps and cobblestones even just crawling over them, and a distinct slight feedback (for want of a description) through the steering I suspected the links but they feel okay but I guess they're under more tension than a shake and a wiggle by hand can detect. :)o gunergle)
Thought I'd have cured it when I replaced a worn trackrod end but it continued.
I'm familiar with many other knocking sound problems and have fixed those over the years. Front propshaft, Diff mounts etc. etc.
I'm replacing the bottom tie-rod whilst I'm replacing the IRD and the roll bar bushes even though they don't look too bad but I'm determined to cure this slight knock even though it doesn't sound or feel particularly critical.
Would appreciate your experience with the symptoms of worn anti roll bar links if it's not too much trouble.
Cheers.

Thats exactly what I'm getting, there are cobbled corners on the way to work through town that it shows up on most, the drivers side is quiet until something works the suspension hard like the cobbles, I thought I had a broken spring at first or a worn spring mount moving but the links defiantly worn in the socket...

The passenger side felt tight by hand and in good condition but using a small lever it was moving about in the socket..

Sounds like its the links that are gone on yours..you've covered most of the others that would cause that kind of noise.. If you can take one of the nuts of top or bottom from the link pull it out and tie/tape it to one side and take it for a spin it should let you know for sure..they have a nut slot on the bottom of the joint so it should come out/off without damaging it if it doesn't need replaced after all.

It's good to talk. :)

Looks like I'll be getting a couple of them myself then.
