anything i can get my hands on cheap really, from fresh olive oil to filtered wvo. Running a treat completely standard at about 50% mix with normal diesel.

Ill be installing a heated fuel filter, insulating the fuel lines and twin tanking it for the winter.

50/50 in summer is fine go to 60% diesel 40% cooking oil in winter and change the filter regularly.

aye ive been running it in my 200tdis for the past couple of years and in the l200 4d56.
The 200tdi in my csw has a heated fuel filter etc and runs quite high percentages even in winter. Doing the conversion solved all my running issues, and the conversion quickly pays for itself in the money saved.

Just being cautious with the beemer engine as i know little about it.

Ive found that once you have done the filter a couple of times the problems tend to reduce as most of the crap out of the system is gone. I clean my oil pretty well too and dont put stuff with animal fats in. I also avoid palm oil as its crap in the winter!

I have a good supplier of virgin olive oil which works a treat and is always immaculate, if rather garlicky!
 
Keep us posted that sounds pretty interesting! I ran my Diso on veg oil but with diesel just above a £1 here I'm not going to risk it just yet :)
 
Its only really worth it if you can get your oil for sub 50p. Otherwise its not worth the dicking about.

I tend to get mine between free and 35p per litre so very much worth it!

Needs a bit more derv in winter because winter diesel is a problem within itself.
 
One thing i definetely need to sort before it gets cold it to sort the cold starting. Even on normal diesel i have to cycle the heaters 3 - 4 times in order for it to start immediately, otherwise i have to crank it for too long.

Seems to have made little difference at present with the veg oil but as it gets colder im sure that wont be the case.....

As the previous owner had not even changed the fuel filter for several years i suspect its just the glowplugs.

First port of call for bad cold starts. You need good plugs on at least three consecutively firing cylinders to get any sort of good start on the P38 diesel.
 
Ill get em done, i bloody hate doing glowplugs mind. Last time i did it on the gaylander and one snapped despite being uber careful.

A good soaking in penetrating oil is needed i think!

aye i dont buy the cheap ****e anymore.

Just trying to find the round fuel tank that i had eyed up a couple of years ago for putting in a wheel well. Now i cannot find a supplier of them. doh!
 
Have ordered a second general grabber for the rear, its got 1 of them on the rear l/h side whilst all the others are road biased tyres. The previous owner of the disco 3 wheels great idea ;)

Going to equip it with a/t's ready for the winter :)
 
Well the temperature dropped significantly overnight and it was an utter bugger to start this morning, good job ive ordered those plugs!
 
Plugs in, starting issues completely resolved.

Discovedred a few more "gems" whilst in there.....

Previous owner had told me he had done loads of work on the engine, this obviously included bodging a screw in to replace a missing stud on the inlet manifold!!!! :mad: Also he had fitted the little 'L' bracket at the very back of the engine between the gasket and the inlet casting!!!! WTF

Also found 2 of the leak off pipes from the injectors were split and leaking.

All sorted and driving much better, Got 102 out of it (on GPS) on 2/3 throttle! :) Mucho lucho!

New tyres have sorted it sqealing on the bends, fitted General grabbers ready for the winter. Got a bit of tyre noise now but at least i wont get stuck on the drive.
 
Very odd that. White smoke is classic water burning sign!!!! The chip shop smell is something I love especially if it is oil that I have got for free!!!!

no reason for smoke other than there being a problem. Did 6000 miles with it on veg no problems. Since been sold.
