I was looking at the brochure for the latest incarnation of the Defender and I was kind of dissapointed, particularly at the lack of seating. One of the reasons I got my particular model was becouse you could carry people and/or stuff in the back as the bench seats dont really take up storage space.
The facia doesnt look as accesible either;more like a regular moulded fascia where it's impossible to get into.
Is the new Defender just as easy to take apart and what about the electrics? I dont know if it has microprocessors now but I hope not - more things to go wrong. One of the great things about a Defender is it's simplicity isnt it?
Just wondering what the entheusiasts thought about it. I dont think I'd ever buy one.

I gotta be honest. I said the same about TD5's. What have I ended up with? You guessed it a flippin TD5.:( :p

The additional electronics are forced on manufacturers to meet EU emission laws. The change in seating was also forced on them by changes in the law.
The dashboard was an attended to appeal to Japanese pick-up drivers, to make it more car like to drive (It's achieved that) It also gives room for a better heater, you even have to turn the heater down in January!
In my opinion it is better than earlier vehicles in nearly every respect, although weather they will be as easy to run on the cheap when they are 20 years old is another question!

Engine too strong for the gearbox which is cream cheese, too much torque and it is fooked!

its got a nicer looking interior though
yeah so yer wouldn't wanna get it muddy or chuck a load of logs in! Makes it all a bit pointless - what are they trying to be? (Bet there woulda bin a fred like this when the TD, 200, 300, TD5 etc came out and they turned out OK!)

Or when the 110 came out in the first place, never be tough enough to replace the Series III!
People just don't like change.
