97 disco1 300tdi, I accelerated hard in 2nd and felt a strange vibration for the first time, took it to my local garage who after a quick look told me that the doughnut was goosed only just hanging on. So bought a new one, same mechanic fitted it and I thought job done, but took it away and it was apparent straight away that it was not fixed, as soon as you put the engine under pressure in any gear, the vibration is there until you ease off, when you have reached your choice of cruising speed, ie motorway 70 the engine not under pressure no vibration, any suggestions as to the cause? By the way the clutch is not slipping.

Have you checked the UJs on the props? Front are the hardest run as the rear has the smoothest angles by design.

Have you checked the output bearings on the transfer case?

Many thanks for your advice dieseldog, as yet I have not had these things checked but will do so asap, am now getting long in the tooth (78) and have to rely on others to do these things for me. following the checks I will come back again Many thanks David

New u/j now fitted, vibration Gone! Thanks again dieseldog.

You are most welcome.

I had the same but it was fine when doing about 100 miles a day and then all of a sudden after about 15 miles into my journey I got a vibration, just a light drumming and by the time I got the 50 miles to work it was worse but I thought it might make it home, by the time I got home, almost 3 and a half hours limping at roughly 15 mile an hour, it was all the worse for me as I had only taken the tools out the night before to fix mums new garden furniture and do a few jobs round her house, late when I had finished up so left them in her lobby

You can get small push pump grease guns for little money, perfect for the little greasing we have to do on these and they fit in the door pocket just nicely too ;)

Just search "push pump grease gun" on Amazon or eBay.
