Hi Thanks for looking.

I Have a 90 defender, P Reg. All poly bushed Orange Floflex everything been checked to ensure they are all tight, new front n back sus dampers, front cones replaced, all new Steering Damper and track rod end bushes, new UG on Propshaft all other ok, New Tyres and wheels balanced at time of fitting.

However at between 40 n 50mph usually on a downward graddient on the road, when i hit a bump i get a large vibration through the truck, feels like coming front front axle. This is not everytime either. Wheel bearings all feel ok. The only thing i can see the truck does not have any anti roll bars on despite having location holes on the axle and chassis, Should they be there or was this removed at some point by design.

If anyone could point me in the right direction i would be very grateful.

Thanks

Andy.

Check your dampers/ shocks, vibration after hitting a bump often a symptom of one on the way out.also check swivel hub preload.

Hhhhmmmmm like you My K reg 90 had developed a real bad vibration it's there when driving at 40 on normal flat roads if I change down and work the engine it goes and driving at 50 it's not there.

But like you if I am on a down hill section and slowing it gets that bad it makes ya body vibrate till you drop below 40 again

I have replaced the front prop as that was buggered and can feel no play in the rear prop

This landy is standard as the day it left the factory and has always been maintained at landrover by the previous owner and has 170K on the clock I am at a loss as to what the problem could be any help and advice would be appreciated

Hi there, I cant for the life of me find the fault!!!! I have replaced almost everything, it has improved but no cured as yet! All the advise givem I have tried, including changing the batteries as the first useless post :) I dont know what the preload is on the hub so if someone could explain what this is I will give it a whirl.

Cheers Andy.

It could be all matter of problems, from bad tyre choice (off road tyres used on road), tracking is out, bearings are out, wheel/s need balancing, warped brake discs (if only happening when braking), axle mounts might need attention if only happening when downhill and braking, half-shaft damaged...

The list could be endless. Sorry for not being any help at all!!

PS - I was chatting to a new landy owner last night and his mechanic friend, and he said that on his wife's car there was a bad vibration whilst driving normally on flat roads - then the flywheel came off inside the bell housing. This would be the last place I would think of looking, and the mechanic chap said the same thing, so it could be something that no-one has ever thought of before!!!

I've got eaxctly the same problem... As soon as you hit a slight bump, it shakes your teeth out.

I had that once, but I haven't noticed it in a long while. I'm not sure, but I think it might have been a loose panhard rod which was noticed and fixed by a garage whilst looking at something unrelated a couple of years ago.

Check all of your track rod ends...if you have a bad one...or two the effect you describe can sometimes be worn out TRE's.

Guys Found the problem, the panyard bush that conects to the axle abd the bolt that holds it in place was not fully tightened up. Also a little play in the steering damper bush all been tightened up and I think the problem has gone away. Well I've been over the roads which normally cause this problem and it hasnt returned yet.

Thanks for all the advise.. Great Forum.

Andy.
