Hi all

At a bit of a loss. Had a nasty rumble on acceleration in all gears. Put it in 2wd to eliminate anything rear of IRD.

Opted to change drive shafts.

Significantly better since however still have a vibration when accelerating in 2nd and 3rd gears.

At a bit of a loss where to go next? Any advice welcomd

Cheers

Luke

Were the drive shafts genuine or OE (GKN) replacements? In my experience, anything other than OE are garbage and cause vibration.

You don't say what engine or box type is fitted, but it's known that failing drive shafts can damage the IRD output bearing or the gearbox output bearings.

The drive shafts were britpart. They have a 2 year guarantee so thought they were likely decent?

Its a td4 manual.

Is there a way to test the output bearings that isnt too intrusive?

Cheers for the reply

The drive shafts were britpart.

Britpart are known as ****part on here.

Can you fix a camera underneath, so you can record what the drive shaft in-board are doing as you accelerate?
It's also a good idea to check the condition of the lower tie bar large bush. These go soft and exaggerate any drive shaft stiffness.

If he lifts the front end (and supports safely) and spins one front wheel will he be able to feel a duff bearing if feeling the drive shaft at the same time?

Ill have a look at the tie rod bush in the morning. I have access to a 4 poster ramp so lifting and feeling around is no issue.

If bearing related would it not be constant rather than just when accelerating?

I fitted cheap drive shafts to my lifted TD4 and got terrible vibrations. Replaced with recon GKN from eurocarparts and problem solved.
With a 2" lift the problem was magnified but could still have been an issue with a standard car.

Interestingly my landy is also lifted 2" and sat on AT tyres. Possibly pertinent

Having been out for a poke around this morning the lower engine mount bush is shot. So will change that and see what difference it makes before further investigating. Will keep thread updated as theres nothing worse than a thread thats been solved and the OP doesnt bother to let everyone that helped know

Thanks for all the input so far

It's ****ing ****ed mate, don't know why you bought it in the first place, find a scrappy who will give you a good price!

Just a quick update

Changed the lower engine mount today. Its further reduced vibration and i just have a very slight vibration at lower revs in 2nd gear now. Will check out other mounts when time allows and post again.

On the bright side its at least drivable now
