Hi all,
So long story short I think my Transfer box is on the way out but wanted to throw symptoms up on here just in case.

When in D or N and the vehicle is in motion I have started to notice a mechanical whuring noise and a slight vibration at times. About 1500 miles ago I had to have the Transfer Box calibrated as I was getting horrific judder and jumping at low speeds.

I have tested coasting the car in N and the issue remains, I have ran the engine to redline in N while stationary and no noise. So from what I know that rules out both the Engine and the Gearbox, this leaves the Transfer box and the Diffs. When the TCCM was calibrated the Diffs and TB had the oil checked and all was well.

If it is the TB I am correct in saying that when it dies it dies and will leave the car stranded?

Is there any ways of checking without taking it to the garage, my LandyBank is currently recovering from my last service when I threw £1400 at it.
 
Now it feels constant, before the TCCM was calibrated it started when the clutch engaged but ended up all the time.
 
If you can hear the noise with the windows down passing stationary traffic/long walls/building etc and it comes and goes with light throttle/no throttle is is most likely your torque converter noisy.
Again if it judders at low speed as you load the engine up on various throttle settings this also points to the t/c.
If so dont worry mine has been like this for 5 years!

Drtranny also helps with the judders
 
Luckily I don't have any of that, so I plugged the car in and read the codes, some I had never seen before. One relating to the turbo under boosting what I have fixed, one saying the Aux heater wasn't getting any fuel what I need to look into, and lastly one saying the car has had an issue talking to the TCCM U0102-87.

After clearing all faults and recalibrating the fuel pump the car appears to have settled down.

I'm 100% sure the TCCM or TB are causing my issues, and it has to be an electrical fault somewhere along the line.
 
I’ve just had my TC replaced, along with a gearbox flush and oil change. It’s like a new(ish) car now. Symptoms prior to taking the plunge were (in order of appearance). Occasional low speed judder on down and up shift. Harmonic/Humming sound at various intervals - like a rumbling wheel bearing but not constant. Feathered/Off throttle rasping sound which then became background permanent fixture. Hunting on downshift and jerky upshift plus waited too long to get into high gear at 50+. So new ZF TC is in situ and it’s quiet, smooth and a nicer drive to boot. Used a local Indy who were very efficient, have the right kit and would recommend.
