My 2003 TD5 defender 90 has started vibrating/shaking when accelerating... I can let off the throttle and it disappears and can even drive with a light foot and its fine... start to accelerate or push it up a hill it starts to shake....
also some metal clink/clanking noise... but I know I have a rear strut mount gone and getting some noise there, but sounds like similar noises coming from up front,

Take the rear prop off.
Engage 4WD (diff lock on).
Drive around ...

is it OK = Yes, order a new propshaft or UJ's and refit.
= No, put it back on and remove the front propshaft and repeat.

Vibration is sign that UJ is seizing. The sound of canaries tweeting is joint is once again free but dry and when things start to rattle/clatter shaft is in danger of coming apart.
Neighbour ignored the last and front prop came free and smashed gearbox case of his Puma!

Boooo…. Yeah it just started happening 3 days ago… it’s my daily driver and parts take about 7 days to get to me in Canada…

As said above if you can find and remove the affected prop, then you can drive in diff lock [ok to do this as a temporary measure ] Drive lightly with care, more so if rear prop off as you can get some odd feeling in steering.
