hi ive just got a discovery 2 facelift, auto, it's got a vibrating when accelerating, I've had a look underneath and the front prop has recently been replaced back look good, any ideas? As everything else i read all point to propshaft??

Hmmmm... is it defiantly a drive chain vibration?
Well i don't know for sure, it don't do it in park or when i put it in neutral when moving, it stops when i let off the gas. I first thought it was a exhaust rattling although quite a deep noise but been under and checked that and all good? Thank for the reply by the way
 
You should describe better the symptom, i mean that "it's got a vibrating when accelerating" every time you touchn the throttle or how?, under load? is there a speed limit for that? etc ... are you sure it's not a "torque converter lockup shudder"? (google this out and see if it's the same or not)

It's loud it can be hard inside and outside the car, if i accelerate lightly i can minimise the he noise but if i just accelerate to keep up with traffic then it's a noisy ride, you can feel it very lightly through the car, but when up to speed it stops, the tone on the noise seems to change ever so small just before and just after gear change but this could do change in load as gears change I don't know, but I don't want to pay somebody to work it out and fix it if i can do it my self. Could be any number of things or combination of. Engine or gearbox mount possibly. One thing to check though, and this is something I found, is your viscous fan. I had a similar vibration so I checked the fan and there was a lot of play in the bearing. (The fan itself, not the pulley it's mounted on) I took it off and it was immediately quieter and the vibration was virtually gone. I say virtually as I also have a feeling I'm going to need a new crankshaft pulley damper....

It seemed to be the back of the car, i had a viscous bearing gone on a v8 range rover i had once, and its not the same

Well it's still worth checking as it's a different model of car. If you think it's rear and not engine related then it's narrowed down to prop, wheel bearings or wheel balancing as the first places to look. Just because it feels like the rear doesn't mean it is though.

defo not diff or transfer box?
 
Does it have a rubber doughnut in the rear propshaft, if so it could be breaking/cracking up.

Might be an idea to check your engine and gearbox mountings also..
