OK on straightish roads but on right turns into side roads it locks, I can force it around normally but at low speeds it is a bit scarey.

Left is not bad, but it appears to be at roughly 60 degrees right from vertical for about half a turn.

Started this morning on way to work so not been driving it a lot.

No obvious jams and it appear to not be damper, drag link, nor track rod.

Does appear to be related to steering WHEEL angle not front wheel angle.

Any ideas please?

In this case, the first things to check are the small U/Js on the column. You could also try disconnecting the steering system at the taper joint at the end of the steering box drop-arm to the drag link so that you can check the column without the additional loading from the wheels.

I'll have a quick look at the UJs and it required get the repair place to order them.

Are these stock items?

The repair place will have a box on the way as mine is leaking.

It is booked in as
1) It is cold.
2) My leg is still bad.
3) Too dark and wet.

Taking into account all of the problems, the best way you can sort this out is to find somebody else to do the job. I would of course expect you to assist all that you can, you can do the grunting when they do the lifting, you could even insert the odd sharp intake of breath at the appropriate times, they always go some way towards helping the job along.

I use Astwood 4x4 as I pass them on my commute.

Will cost me a bit but until I am better I am stuffed.

Round item with Denso 447300-7880 sticker on it extracted from the engine bay next to the bottom UJ.

Do I need a new aircon compressor?
