(Very smug mode on) - I just turn the heated windscreen and botty warmer on, drive off and 2 minutes later the heater is banging out the heat, its like sitting in a volcano. Even in the coldest weather I can lower the electric windows and have a fag. In hot weather - air con on. Ah, the joys of a Tdci. (Cant seem to turn the smug mode off).

Stuck in smug mode is a common fault with Tdci's

I had two 'replacement' stats not work straight out the box and the same symptoms as you

I went to landrover and brought a genuine one and it's perfect.

I was once given a new stat, needed it as I knew my old one had failed, fitted it and it was worse than the old one. Got a LR one (about £7 at the time) worked perfectly.

Some things are just worth getting OE for.

I always buy genuine if I can, it saves you buying twice, or three times , or four times , or.....

My old gear stick gaiter lasted 30 years, my replacement came in a blue b, naa, best to name them , BRITPART!!! and lasted less than a year.
That was the last time I ever bought a BRITPART!!!!! part, never again.

Waxstat is what had packed up so i put a QH one in.

Update folks, took my (replacement) QH stat out and started engine with stat out, and housing left off, pump works! coz i got engine bay sprayed, lol Put stat housing back on minus Stat, topped up and ran it Eureka! Engine no so fekkin Hot now!, heat everywhere, Yes! Temp gauge only gets to quarter on a run now.
So turned hot tap on until heat nearly peeled my skin and filled an old pan, Dropped new Q/Hazell stat in put on cooker full on for another 17 mins before it opened, Jesus what temperature did that reach !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that must surely be more than 88 degrees, no wonder my temperature gauge hit red and i stopped it, taking it back!!! and have ordered a proper Landy one again.
