Evening everyone. Hope your surviving the heat.

This week, im about to get stuck into the axles on the P38a, 1997 2.5 DT.

The front axle needs one CV joint and boot, so im doing both. Ill be in there anyway so ill change the ball joints as well and all this began because it was time to do the discs and pads, so ill do them too.

The rear axle will get new discs pads and calipers, but having just taken the rear wheels off I noticed that the OSR disc back plate is very damp with oil, inside and out. Its been "sweating" for about a decade but never enough to fail an MOT. It looks like it has deteriorated now so I might as well sort it while i've got it stripped. Could someone tell me whats likely to be causing that oil sweating?

Mine was exactly the same. As Brian said, seal on the half shaft. They're cheap and it's an easy job to do.

Brilliant. Thanks both of you. I was concerned it was the hub but the seal sounds like a lucky escape.

Any special tools required or can I just knock the seal in until its home?

No special tools needed i did mine when i changed the diff and just tapped them in square to the same depth as the old one, if you dont want to take the abs sensor out i just unpluged the connector and removed the caliper and disc and undone the hub and the whole assembly bearing hub shaft the lot pulls out

You do need a specific Loctite for the splines on the shaft. Can't remember which one but it's in Rave.

AHHHH!!!! I think the heat has melted my RAVE CD. I cant get into it to see the manual. It was fine last night.

Just searched Google for a free download but every link I click is dead. Could someone point me in the direction of a working link to a free download? Unless anyone would be kind enough to email one to me :)

That's why is always a good idea to copy RAVE from the CD to your hard drive.
I can't email you a link, but if you get desperate I can post you a CD with RAVE on it:)

The Dropbox link I put in the tech archive should still work. It's still in my dropbox.

Thats a very kind offer DT. It would be churlish not to accept. :) Do you want anything for it? Or is there an Auberge I can say thank you in, next time i'm heading to Ruffec.

Nice one, thanks. I wonder if there's something wrong with my computer though. I cant seem to open any of that either...
Compatibility issue if you're using a newish version of Windows 10 or 11. Someone posted the settings to fix it but I can't for the life of me remember who.

RAVE runs on Win 10 in compatibility mode, you may have to try different options, Win 98 works for me. You may also have to scroll through several error warnings before it starts.
If you are going to Ruffec, you could always call in, I'm almost on your way:)
If you want the CD posted, PM me with an address.

Id be glad to DT. Used to drive up and down the N10 every few months but my work doesn't take me down to Cadiz as often as it used to. Have friends in Sauize Vaussais though so im still a frequent-ish visitor to your very charming neck of the woods.

PM to follow.
