Have a look at forte engine flush mate, you would need two bottles, would take years to clean that off by just changing the oil
Is that better than the others? I can get this for under £3 as we're a Comma stockist!

My mate did this on an old pd130, worked an absolute treat
Its a tip I picked up many moons ago that was used to cure sticky tappets in K series engines, will it did not actually cure them it flushed the crap out and the fresh oil cured the noise.
I have used it a few times myself with great success.

Driving home last night I had a bit of a thought... I remember quite a while ago mentioning on here about the lower temp thermostat I had fitted (78 or 82*C one) and @sierrafery commented that it might not be such a good idea. I wonder if running it at that temp for a year would have contributed to the build up of dirt?

what's "normal" for you? and the consumption? a td5 at 80 - 81 is running "rich" unless it's remapped for that kind of ECT/FT, .... NORMAL RUNNING TEMP for Td5 is 90*C. Believe me or not

Hi, i really dont know if that can be th reason or not... what's certain is that at lower ECT/FT it gets more fuel and the EGT is higher.... i dont remember, did you say something about consumption then?
