I've been enjoying Landyzone for a while as a guest, and now I have a Land Rover of my very own, I thought it was time to join properly. I've just had one of those landmark birthdays, and what better way to celebrate than with the purchase of a Defender.

Let's see if picture posting works for me:

It's looking as if butter wouldn't melt in its mouth, but in that last picture it had just cooked its wiring loom. All fixed now, fortunately. Over the next few months I'll be posting pictures of a few repairs and improvements as funds allow and look forward to verbal abuse in the normal course of events.

All the best,

Brown

Well I never, you lot don't hang about. I'm in Leicester. The pictures flatter the Land Rover and make it look shiny. Up close you can see all the scratches; however, the chassis still has some steel in it and isn't a confection of rust held together with underseal as is traditional on second hand Land Rovers. Still has original factory paint and sticky labels on it. Yes indeed, a 90. Though I'm starting to wonder whether a 110 might have been a better choice as I'm finding ever larger things I want to move around with it. Never mind, it just means I shall have to save up for a roofrack.

I know Landy's have a reputation for rusting, but you'd be going some if your chassis was rusty after only 6 years. It's positively new compared to most. In fact it was still in warranty only 3 years ago:eek:

Yes, that's why I dug deep into my wallet and bought a relatively recent one! I've had the experience of reconstructing a Series 2 chassis armed with one of those little 140 amp arc welders from Machine Mart many years ago. But I was a much younger man in those days. Now, I'm after something I can actually drive rather than merely fight corrosion all day long.

I remember when mine looked that clean :hysterically_laughi

Well, I had just hosed it down in those pictures. Last weekend I drove around mid Wales on Saturday and Sunday and got it absolutely filthy. And that involved very little driving off tarmac. Well, I think there was tarmac there somewhere, underneath the manure, surface water and flood residues. Anyway, a good deal of this rich adhesive mixture ended up on the sides of the car. I've just washed it this morning so the paint is showing through again.
