So you put used veg oil straight into the tank on your fiesta?
Still workig out the best option for my Landy and Passat.
Truck only gets used maybe once a week (will be more when it snows) and passat is my daily driver.
 
I've been running my year 2000 TD5 on 99% Biodiesel (There was a little diesel in the bottom of the tank) for 320 miles so far. Takes a few extra turn of the engine to start, but appears to run smoother and have more power, with no noticeable change in MPG.

veg oil isn't the same as biodiesel !

Yeah, under normal conditions. I used to (oddly) go by the clocks. When you bump them an hour forward at the start of the year, I add about 1% white spirit (shhhh....) or 5% unleaded or 20% diesel.

When it's cold like this, I would top off with diesel, wouldn't recommend anything over 60/40 (oil/fuel) mix. But each car varies. My Toyota used to hate 100% oil, unless it was proper summer, you know well above 20 every day, but the festa loved it right up until October (when the clocks go back).

Incidently, and I don't know if this is true or a friend of mine minding me up, but the diesel engines in fiestas (from 99-2001 when the newer shape came out) were based on a VW design. If your Passat is direct injection, I'd be inclined to whack a bit in and see how you go, but I'd wait for the weather to cheer up a little first.
 
Mmm might look into thinnin it with white spirit or unleaded. Can get used oil free and have a 200l drum to store it in. Could mix it in there then chuck it straight in after leaving it a week or two to settle.
 
If you are going to start fuelling with used veg oil,IT MUST BE FILTERED FIRST down to at least 5microns,and then mix it with at least 10% unleaded in this weather,possibly some diesel as well.Unfiltered used oil will block your filter very quickly,and you will grind to a halt.
Keep a sample of your fuel in a bottle on the drive so you can see when your fuel is waxing and add further petrol or more derv accordingly.
I run 100% bio and at this time of year has 10% petrol added to stop gelling below zero c
Do not use white spirit-if you are caught they will have a field day.
 
don't be tempted to warm filter, and only half fill your tank if cold weather is forcast so you have room for more unleaded or diesel.
 
I've done about 10000 miles on veg oil I dont have a specifice ratio but too much veg (more than 85%) I struggle to start, it always goes in the end on about 60% veg it starts like it is running on diesel, as mentioned go to a local cash and carry about 75p a litre :)
