If you get pulled over by VOSA they'll nick you for either red deisel or veg oil - :(
red is @ 26p/l atm vs 50p/l veg oil - probability of being stopped is the same, so financially red would be the best option
 
You assume i am not allready paying the relivent taxation on the veg oil?

Notice EX103 + Form 179E been there done that :)

But claiming the VAT back on veg oil purchases is something i am leaving for the accountant to handle.
 
when it gets cold, ie approx zero degress c, then some peeps still use a 5 or 10% mix and others use raw derv. certainly safer to use the raw derv.

this is the other reason why a twin (heated) tank system is the best idea.

White spirit is clear; brings darker colours back to a pale yellow diesel colour!

To be honest, if it burns, goes in the tank, and offers enough lubrication to the pump while not being overly thick, it will make a diesel go.

In the winter if your going on any long journeys, start it up on DERV, and then blast in x litres of your favourite juice, once at the destination and tank has used most of the fuel, throw in a gallon of derv let it mix this around and draw it into the fuel system, this will help it start if your going to let the engine cool. Once your off again, start it back up, and throw in another x litres for the return.

If you keep it garaged at night you will have less of a cold morning starting problem. I have a button for my glows, so I would just give it an extra few seconds and its fine. You could always put in a glow override circuit, it would not be difficult, get the combustion chamber red hot, then crank.

Yes, but since when did we not want to mount a switch somewhere on the dash? An override would also give a more continual heat.
 
There has been 2 landy's in my local garage this week one of them was running on paraffin and engine oil mix, because some bloke down the pub said it would be OK. The other was running on anything but tap diesel. The latter ones pump had seized the other is about to along with blocked injectors. Like discomainia said the pump needs lubrication. Properly made biodiesel is more lubricating than dino diesel according to the book "from the fryer to the fuel tank" If you get pulled by VOSA or customs they will impound your motor if you have red in the tank. I'm all for alternative fuel and poking Gordon Brown in the eye, so just go careful me old mate.
