Hi just had this probiem its the tyres ! after putting 2 new on the rear i noticed a drone over 60mph with some advice . after a run i felt my vcu i could of fried a egg on it ! after more advice i mesured the height of my tyres there was 25mm dif front to rear WHAT I HAVE LEARNED FROM THIS IS ALL 4 TYRES SAME MAKE , SAME SIZE since doing this drone has gone vcu is cold the height tollerance between front and rear is now 2mm ! this is a big issue with the freelander and needs to be put on a sticky

20mm circumference difference front to rear is about 4% on a 26inch diameter tyre.
As many have found out, often expensively, the vcu is over worked if the ratio between front and rear is too great. If it were my Freelander I’d test the vcu whilst still on it to see it was ok, then remove it and the props to make it 2 wheel drive. Then get the tyres replaced.
When I needed 3 new tyres, I got a set of 5 new put on. Couldn’t get the same as before as they stopped making them. My tyres were damaged due to a split and 2 bulges. It was the only option in my opinion. Best option considering the damage that could happen.

Hi pardec, It's a bitch, I mesured the height of my tyres/ wheels from top to bottom on level ground. Place a block of wood on top of the tyre and mesure from the floor to the wood. When i did this the front wheels were 25mm shorter in height than the rear. After buying two new tyres and placing them on the rear and moving the two near new to the front using the same process was 2mm between front and rear. Try this height mesurement it should be no more than 5mm differance please let me know your findings.

Think this is my problem. Measured them using the wood method and the fronts are 245mm and the rears 270mm.
So i've just taken the prop and vcu off again until i source a full set of new rubber.
I currently have 225/55/17 on, can i replace them with 225/60/17 ?
