Apologies if this is in the wrong place, first actual post for information!

Just bought a 1996 defender 300tdi- with side windows. When I went to insure it I got completely screwed as everywhere said they wouldn't insure it because it's classified as a van

Will changing my V5C from van to CSW or car bring my insurance down and make everything legal again?

Many thanks folks!

Does yours have 4 inward facing seats or bench sears?
Do you think yours has been modified? It used to be a popular thing to do to get more money for them.

Nope no rear seats at all. Checked the v5c again and it's down a PLG- yet insurance still says it's a van! Do plan on putting benches in mind you, have a set out of my series

It obviously was/is a van. Someone putting after market side windows in won't change that. If you look the VIN code up it will likely say it's a van.

I've got my insurance with nfu, no problems. They told me that as it doesn't improve performance it's not classed as a mod. But have put a footnote on my policy stating extra seating.

That's great the know manchestershire, hopefully the nfu will be a decent quote as I've heard they don't mind reasonable modifications
