Hi, long time since i've posted, have searched but not got the full answer I need, want to change the seals in situ, has anyone done it and give a few tips ? Also james put a link on an old thread re a tool to do in situ but link no longer works, just goes to ebay home page.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

I'd imagine it can be done on a 300tdi but I don't know for sure.
I've done it on petrol engines and bought a clever valve spring compressing tool to do it with. You just need to rotate the engine so that the valve can't fall too far down the piston.
But if it has double springs that could be a problem.
You can tell I've never had a 300tdi engine apart!
 
The tool i am talking about looks like this

The feet of the compressor are offset to allow them to be hooked into the spring. Sorry, can't remember who I got mine from.
 
And hear is a vid of the guy doing it and he says you CAN do it on a TDI!
