did you check the head for cracks?

Oh YES!!

All cleanerd up nice then a little bit of 600 grit paper. Chambers were in very good nick. Still see the original cross grind lines. Valves all look good and no cracks - I checked properly as I only want to do it once.
Use an elring gasket

Oh Yes - I didn't recognise it when I started it! I had a big grin on my face!!
gasket was gone where we thought. Right at the back towards the bulkhead.
No 4 piston I think. Rest of gasket was in great condition so at 236K it must have just been wear, tear and age.

I know what you mean, we did the clutch on my 90 the other day, only thought afterwards that it would've been a good idea to take fotos... But my brother would've shouted even more if I was clicking away instead of doing what he was telling me to.... :mil90: brotherly love....
