Hi folks,
I have a Series 3 109 which I am going to have to be forced to sell due to economic (and marital) reasons, which is going to break my heart but needs must. My problem is that I haven't the faintest idea of what it may be worth and how much to ask for it, and I am hoping that some of you might be kind enough to give me a rough idea, or at least to suggest where I might go to find out, based on my description below.

I know absolutely nothing of it's history prior to buying it about 8 years ago. It was registered in 1978 and originally had a 2.25 petrol engine but at some time this was replaced with a 2.25 diesel 2A engine and the doors replaced from probably the same donor vehicle. It is a hard top/van style with the smaller rounded rectangular style windows and a tailgate as opposed to rear doors. The seats are not original and I believe may have come from a Range Rover or Discovery. In the time I have had it I have replaced all the brake and clutch master and slave cylinders, front brake drums, clutch and water pump. I would be selling with a full set of parabolic springs which I never got round to fitting and a spare set of 4 extra wide wheels without tyres.

It has always been a good runner and I have used it frequently over the years for short local trips as well as camping holiday trips of 400-500 miles at a time, although it hasn't moved for over a year now other than shunting it around when it's been in the way, but at least that has kept it moving and running to a degree.

Current known issues are:
- The paintwork is old and faded, badly needs a respray!
- The exhaust is pretty smoky until the engine warms up.
- There is one hole in the chassis that I am aware of which will require welding
- An intermittent bad connection within the instrument panel meaning some of the electrics don't work
- The 4WD lever (yellow) doesn't engage and stay down (very recent problem)
- There's a slow leak in the braking system somewhere, after a few months sitting the brakes need filling and bleeding.

Some of the lesser issues I can deal with myself (mainly the last three) if this is likely to enhance the sale value but I am anxious to get even the roughest idea of what it may be worth just as it stands, any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Incidentally I am located in Aberdeenshire.

Hi Pal shame you have to sell it, is she due half of it if so I'll give you scrap value & keep it at mine
an you can have it back. :D

It does sound a bit of a project an I have seen some go from a grand to 2k pictures would be better
than words. :)

Although its mot exempt, a full mot ticket would help sell it which means getting those jobs done. I agree with @kevstar about £1500 currently as a project. £2500-£3000 with a full mot. Unfortunately your location will limit buyers.

Think outside the box. Angle grinder through it, give half to your ex wife! ;):D

Seriously, though. Not one of the most sought after models, not very original, 109s don't sell as well as 88s, and you live in the back of beyond.

Upsides, Series are selling well, there are quite a lot of rich oilies around that might like a project, and you don't need to get top dollar, as the money will probably go to your missus.

Guessing 2 grand, maybe a bit more, advertise it and see what offers you get.

My suggestion would be a free classified ad in LRO magazine. They go online, and in the magazine.

Thanks for all your replies, the fact is I am being nagged to sell it so that the dosh can go towards getting another car. Knowing that it isn't worth as much as the wife expected takes a bit of that immediate pressure off. The plan has always been to at least get it back to roadworthy and up to MOT standard so I can use it again, and later do a bit more restoration which would increase it's value anyway giving her less to complain about.

Sell the wife , keep the 109”. Simples.

Don’t repaint it unless you really have to .
If he does repaint his wife, it is important to leave a patch on the back unpainted, so her skin can breathe.

Even so, I doubt if she will fetch any more than the Series.
