Hi All,

My clutch is slipping in my 90 and have got a few prices for Valeo and L.O.F Road and Power spec clutches plus fitting.

Just wondering what people’s thoughts are on the 3 clutches and the best prices I have been quoted.

Valeo - £478
L.O.F ROADspec - £532
L.O.F POWERspec - £610

Thanks

Is your 90 standard?
what engine is in your 90?
If it is , are you planning on keeping it std? or going to try tuning it?

Cheers

Sorry, it’s a 300tdi.

No immediate plans to do anything with the engine yet (too much to do on the rest of it first)

The only thing it has got is a boost pin and ring.

If a standard 300tdi you will be absolutely fine with standard kit, only thing I would update in there would be the clutch pedal fork so that the pin can’t bust through

Not had a problem with Valeo clutches. But I wouldn't be looking to spend that sort of money. I would think that is at least double what I would expect to pay.

Seams a big price to fit a simple clutch, I have used a few Valeo clutches over the years without
any issues. The uprated clutch fork is only a bit of flat bar welded across it. Make sure you get
the spigot bush replaced in the flywheel.

When I had my 200tdi clutch replaced, at a garage (independent LR), it was £450 cash. That was the HD arm, and clutch kit, supplied and fitted with new bearing and bush, and a prop shaft UJ replaced at the same time. So I don’t think the first price is too steep.

Interesting. Hadn't thought that the prices might include labour. I assumed it was for the parts.

Just put a 300tdi Defender 130 clutch in - job done - a bit heavier but I have had a 130HD clutch in my 90 for about 8 years and I am used to it.

£100-125 will cover the kit - I'd do the slave too while I am in, make sure you get the right one, there were two slaves and 2 pushrods, mismatch them and you can have issues.

I agree with this, 130 valeo clutch kit in mine (200tdi) with HD arm and no complaints. I could do the clutch in mine in 1/2 day on the driveway, but I have done it a couple of times and had the boxes out a couple of times so I know everything just unbolts nicely. I would second the buying the tools and doing it yourself though, should take a day, would comfortable be done in a weekend, and will be cheaper, and give you a whole new wealth of experience about how your land rover fits together.

I hope they include fitting . It is what he had written.

Cheers
I had interpreted that as the price for the parts, and would be plus the price for fitting.

If it had said price of a clutch kit inclusive of fitting, I would have got it.

I think the last Valeo clutch kit I bought was about £150 inclusive of VAT, hence why I was surprised.

Yes, I can see that, I have purchased a few clutches over the last couple of years , including a LOF TGV spec clutch and that was nowhere near the cost of the prices quoted.

Having said that it still seems top end cost wise to get a clutch fitted if the fitter has the lift etc.

Cheers
