hello all
i'm new to your forum and i'm going to be cheeky :D and ask for advice straight away,

i'm in the process of helping a mate convert his 1986 ninety from a n/a 2.25 diesel to a 3.9 v8i out of a range rover se vogue, everything going alright so far, engine and gearbox are in, prop shafts connected, just putting cooling system in. the problem we have got is knowing which part of the wiring loom to keep . have got the manual showing the loom, have a rough idea but would like an expert view to make sure it's right, don't want to cut out something we might need.
the engine is a 3.9 v8i with the 5am airflow meter the gearbox is an auto which was connected to an electronic dash , i want to keep the 90 original speedo so need to know weather i can disregard the speed transducer, any help will be much appreciated, the lads having withdrawal symptons , he's not been in the mud since just before christmas

cheers once again

Hmmm, I wouldn't like to speculate about this. I had a V8i converted ex-military, but fortunately the conversion was carried out by an independant Landy dealer (Four plus4). Don't know which bits you can snip, but I do recall that there were several pots (volume control style variable resistors) for tweaking settings where sensors were non -existent, but setting this up is something that I would never dream of doing myself.

Another option is give RPI engineering a ring, give them your engine number and they can supply you with a replacement mechanical distributor, Edelbrock dual plane racing manifold, 4 barrel Webber carb jetted to your motor, K&N filter, all fittings etc for just under £700. No electrics, purely mechanical engine, rip all the wiring out. For another £250 you can convert it to Lumenition Optronic contact breakerless ignition and a MicroDynamics RL8 rev limiter from Demon Tweeks.

There is no need to cut anything, the loom for EFI is seperate from everything else and comes out through a hole in the bulkhead big enough to get the main ECU plug out.You need the correct LR electrical trouble shooting to do it easily,NOT a Haynes manual. Most of it is plug and play but you will need to study a bit,(shut the workshop door and turn the radio off ) to sort out the last few bits.Last did one about 18 months ago on a bobtail,so I can remember exact deatail, plus the owner kept the notes I made.
Transformed his truck,no more misfiring and hesitation on bumpy/fast going.Had a 4bbl Weber on it before.

hi ,
money's now getting tight got to finish her with what we've got off the range rover , still want to put lpg on to her yet , can't afford to go to carbs , heard of something called a megasquirt system not to sure about them though to replace the injection loom i think and brain.
got the proper landrover manuals for most land rover models on pdf files can trace most wire 's , the a/c circuit could come out so to the conder fan timer relay , won't be used , but do i have to final the circuit wire back to the ecu , so it receieve's a signal.
have locked myself in the work shop to try to sort this little puzzle but made the mistake of opening the fridge in the corner , finding several bottle's of unopened stella .....was feeling slightly partched at the time ......
still the loom awaits compleation..
now my mate wants to use the range rover axels to make it discs all round don't no weather this can be done , but will have a go once we get her up and running ,
