Hi all, back again for some more abuse.

keen on a v8 for my 1989 90, has the orginal TD at the moment. what kind of set up can i fit? i.e. the 3.9, 3.5/ auto/manual prefer to have a manual. how much bodging do they take??

cheers

how much bodging do they take??

Lots :D

Get yourself a donor RRC and take it from there.

You will need to mod engine and gearbox mounts as well as exhaust (cut and shut RR one).

There is also, fuel pipes, coolant pipes, wiring loom and mounting all the bit like, air box, radiator, blah blah blah.

Hi mate!

I went the other way, mine had a 3.5 V8 in it when i bought it before i changed it for a Disco 200tdi lump :D

It had the LT95 4 speed manual in it (Which i dont recommend!) The LT95 it as bomb proof as your going to get however i would now go for the LT85 which has the much needed 5th gear!

Apart from a few different electrics swapping all you really need to do is move your engine mounts forward to suit, the gearbox mounts are in the same place on the chassis (Different mounts tho) And youl need the correct props to match the new gearbox!

There are a few other bits and bobs but thats the major stuff youl have to do.

Hope this helps a bit, Scott

Hi Warmo, how are the hols going? I don't think this will get you quite as much abuse as your last thread sadly http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/opinions-please-little-mod-my-truck-104547.html haha!!!

Dad runs a 3.9 with an auto box in his and doesn't like it. It's ok on long drives but isn't pleasant on motorways as it lacks a high enough gear. Also it lacks flexibility (e.g. towing heavy loads, engine braking or ragging the nuts off it. Personally I would stick with a manual box

I spoke to Nick tother day so will get the dates for Tixover and give you a ring.

hi im running a 3.9 auto and highly rate it,my rangy on the motorway loved it.that was the doner.your going to get all differnt opinoins on here but theres 3 i no that are on here that is doing done the same.

I test-drove a 90 truck cab with a 3.5 carbed V8, automatic gearbox, and I hated it. It had a straight through exhaust on it, so it was really loud and sounded nice, but with the auto gearbox changes it didn't sound quite right. The gearbox also wanted to hold onto 1st and 2nd way too long, even when you were just pootling along. Manual all the way!

Hi mate,

I've just fitted a 3.9 v8 with auto box into my 90 which started life as a td. I found it prety easy to fit, the only help I got was to have the engine mounts welded into there new position, I had a few starting probs, which turned out to be a dodgy wiring loom from the doner. so make sure you get a good doner. It was definatly worth all the hassel. As malcs90 said a few of us are doing the same conversion at the mo and would gladley share our experiences.
