Water pump impellors do fail
Radiators do block up
Viscous fans do fail

Sniff test with exhaust gas analyser

have you thought about fitting an electric fan that can either be manually or temperature activated??

I would go to a garage and get them to do a sniff test. It will see if any exhaust gasses are entering the cooling system from
Headgasket, cracked head etc.

Hopefully that will be clear

As said here already, maybe your overheating because your not getting the volume of water going around the engine from a blocked rad or faulty water pump

Or maybe the water is getting round fast enough but is not cooling properly from a ****e rad or faulty cooling fans.

Or maybe your engine is goosed and there is no hope for us all?

Loads of things to check, thermostat, water pump, air leaks on the suction side of the water pump, wrong coolant (fairly critical on these engines) debris in the radiator core(s) viscous coupling, etc.

Our 1999 V8 has the original radiator and still keeps a steady temperature when towing our 3.5tonne (static weight) trailer, so the cooling capacity is there.

They do need a good pump and thermostat, and the viscous coupling must be working properly as well.

Once set up and running they are great engines, wouldn't change mine, and you'll find that a 300TDi will be somewhat sluggish after the V8.

hi to all, many thanks, to all who replyed twin fans being fitted, tomo, sniff already tested and now preasurizing me thinks liners...oh well cant spend any more so back to betty my faithfull 200tdi 24 yrs old but not big enough to tow my van:crutch:

If your going to bin it and you think engine is knackered- give it a dose of k seal.
I only recommend this on vehicles that are disposable- but I have a car that is scrap value that it worked on for several thousand miles and went straight through mot
