Hi chaps,

Recently got the land rover running perfect, had no faults at all for last couple weeks. Normally the coolant temp needle doesn't go above half way and normally sits about a third of the way, I was driving through the welsh valleys today and came to steep incline, suddenly the temp gauge moves to 3/4 way up, pulled over and let to cool, started up travelled another 2 or 3 miles and it happened again. At this point I was where I needed to be for the day.

On travelling home the needle didn't move above halfway for most of journey then suddenly climbed to close to last white mark, stayed there for couple miles (squeaky bum time) then seemed to drop to normal. Just been out again and it seems to fluctuate to top of scale, stay for abit then come to halfway.

No water being lost at all, oil level seems ok....stumped!!! And quite worried about it frying the heads. Any ideas?

Cheers in advance

Would be worth taking it out and seeing if provlen persists, if it still runs hot could the water pump have failed??

Looking at the engine while it running tonight and notices the fan not spinning, seems the coupling had gone, no drive to coupling whatsoever. Can anyone recommend where to get one from, need one ASAP really??
Cheers guys

Just checked the fan this morning and it rotates with a bit of drag when pushed with my hand, indicating the coupling etc are fine....starting to think water pump or rad blockage?? Is there anything else that can cause these symptoms?
Cheers

There's not much to go wrong with a water pump, leaking, bearing or impeller/shaft broken that's it and u would have no doubt on any of those issues.
The cooling-fan should turn always and be locked-up with a hot engine and that can be heard in a change of the fans sound.
When the viscous unit is cold the fan is move/spin by hand it will be one or maybe two fan blades at a time and no more.

I have a 110 3.5 v8 carb and had the same issue, I took rad out and flushed, removed stat, checked water pump to no avail. Bought a temp sender for 12 quid off eBay and Lo and behold it solved my problem

Yeah was gonna say, I put loads of temp sensors in mine, they regularly go faulty!

First sign of hot running i try a new sensor before going any further!
