Hello there my v8 96 gems 4.6 not gassed is having a bad time on tickover. It normally ticks over at 700 800 rpm but the last couple of days it drops down to 400 rpm and goes back to700 800 . When you pull off it has slight back fire and struggles to reach 2000rpm and then it will be fine..this will happen when the engine is hot or cold.
Could this be some sort of sensor going down ?
Cheers in advance stuart..

Start engine and unplug the MAF...if it runs rougher MAF is fine...no change, suspect the MAF

Trust you have checked HT leads and coil packs!

Back again .Went out last night to check the coil pack connections just in case i missed anything.
Then i noticed a small black pipe between the plenum chamber and a valvey looking thing by the coil pack at the back of the engine. The pipe was split all the way round so i snipped about two inches off it put
It back on...
Then in the morning it was fine not a problem as i drove to work and back home..from work
Could it be somthing as easy as that...?.
