Hi guys,

After running my v8 this last month, i'm feeling the pinch!

I know, i know, they sound amazing and turn heads.....and empty wallets...

Wanted advice for the lowest cost LPG DIY kit on the market (that my mate can fit)

Alternatively, what engine would you recommend for reliability and cost savings (i'm in the LEZ, so has to be compliant with that) and where would you buy it?...... and sell a very good v8??

Also, any London/surrey garages that could fit a new engine without charging the earth.

Anybody able to anwser that lot is a genuis!!! Any advice very welcome!

If you want to keep the perks of a V8 than replace it with a modern fuel efficient and powerful one such as the Toyota/Lexus 1UZ-FE or the Chevrolet LS1

Both of these engines are far superior to the boat anchor rover V8

So you have a V8 landy and live in inner London......why??? Get lots of reasons to need clearance whilst driving in town? Sell it and buy a matiz or some plug in ****box which has got to be cheaper than running a V8 brick in one of the worlds largest cities!!

You will spend far more fitting a LEZ compliant diesel, than you will save on fuel for quite a few years !! Fitting a nother petrol lump is pretty much a waste of time , best win win option is go LPG JMHO

Why not? Its a free country - allegedly. Why should where you live dictate what car you should own? Like most people the OP probably can not afford to run different cars for different purposes so chooses to run one that can do most things.

Thanks for all your words brothers.

My reasons for getting the v8 were to avoid buying anything on a new plate, 2001 plus to conform with LEZ, that were out of my price range.

Also, the vehicle is just such a babe, it was love at first sight!

Trouble is, business is a bit slack, i'm a self employed landscaper/tree surgeon, and i cant really dole out for another motor at the mo.

Was probably too optimistic on mpg and usage.....

Just for the record on a couple of points i first raised;

Where to buy a LPG kit/cost?

What cost replacement low litre engine installed?

Would a sweet v8 in good nick fetch anything much?

Cheers lads

I'll tell you if I ever get my gearbox conversion back

anywhere up to a grand inc engine I'd assume, depends how much labour is and how easy it is to fit the engine in

Spot on. I have absolutely no practical day-to-day need to own a 90, although I would like to think it might help get me out of a pickle should one arise. I wanted one. I bought one. I pay road tax for it and maintain it in a roadworthy condition so that it passes MOTs. Beyond that, it's really nobody else's business why I choose to run it.

My wife owns two horses and our house/hot water is heated by a wood burner with a voracious appetite. Ever tried towing a double horse box or a fully loaded trailer of logs out of a wood with a smart car? You could easily get a smart car in the horsebox and two of them on my trailer. I dont tow every day but I can not afford two cars so I have my 90 which is my every day motor and works like a trojan when I need it to.

From the above you might think we are posh and loaded but you'd be far from the truth. My wife works in Sainsburys and drives a 1999 Volvo. I'm a retired cop and drive a 1998 Defender. We worked hard to save a few pennies and I wont be dictated to by the wishy washy PC brigade as to what sort of motor or lifestyle I should live.

Our gas bill for last year (the whole year) was less than £100 so owning and using my 90 for wood collection has virtually paid for itself over the past five years in domestic fuel savings. Not to mention the hours of fun and excercise I've had logging.

Oooops - just realised this thread has gone way off topic so I'll get off my soapbox and make a cuppa!

All power to you - fill your boots and enjoy driving around in London! Always makes me larf when I do venture into London on a rare occasion when I see someone struggling around in a landy. I own one coz if I didnt then I would not get to my house half the year.

I don't drive in London or live or work there but, if I did, I would imagine that a 90 would be about as good as anything else for getting about (fifty point turns aside :D ).

Probably better as it will cope with the potholes without falling to bits.
