I have bought myself a disco 2 manual v8 gearbox for my v8 conversion. I know the selector/remote is in the wrong position for a defender but i’m going to modify the existing remote i have on my lt77 along with the adaptor available from ashcrofts. What i would like to know is can i use the hi-lo/diff lock linkage off my lt77 on the r380?

Yet again james i thank you! (Should have you on speed dial!) do you have a part number for the cranked arm required?

Mike - How are you getting on with the conversion?
Slowly, my garage is absolutely full at the moment.
Everytime i want to work on the 90 i have to empty it.
I’m planning on building an extension to the existing garage for more space. (Lucky that i’m in no rush to do it)

I know the feeling. I have an 11,000 sqft warehouse filled with my business and toys. Jeeez things pile up!

Hope you manage to make some good progress

Some progress, got the crossmember in and fitted the gearbox and also bolted up the mockup block ready to fabricate some engine mounts!

If you zoom in you can see how far apart the mounts are between the 200tdi on the chassis and the v8 on the block. I put a measuringtape across and its 5”!

Yes james, i want to keep everything as land rover intended. I can then use standard parts etc. The only issue being the mount on the chassis being in the 200tdi position. I am going to fabricate the engine mounts to suit. I dont want to cut the chassis mounts because its a galvanised chassis. I’m a welder/fabricator by trade so i should be able to knock something up.

Good project!
Very keen on doing something similar myself, I have a td5 defender with a galv chassis and I also have a 3.5 with all new cam and tappets, timing gear and chain and edlebrock manifold and carb and electric dizzy....parts have never ben out the box!

Keep up with the pics, very cool! :)
