All hypothetical at the moment but should the day come that I feel like a newer disco I wondered if a petrol d3 is actually a good shout? None of the diesel engine’s complications, only get 23mpg out of my TD5 auto so presumably running costs would be similar?

I don’t think there’s many around , believe they have the jag 4.4 V8 engines

Haven’t heard many bad things around them , see many are on LPG , I would have one on LPG seeing I do low mileage , along with them being extremely comfortable , really like my D3 but it’s the TDV6
 
As with any old LR I’m just at the point of do I carry on spending on the D2 or move on. Spent too much money on the wrong things on my D1, D2 has a fair to do list some of which I’ll do anyway. I get sucked in by horror stories of the TDV6, I’d like something I’m not outside fixing every weekend but then I also want to continue Disco ownership, not sure the two are especially compatible!

Do understand where ur coming from, have u test driven a D3 yet plse,only reason I ask is u might not like it

Also heard horror stories right up to the D4s and D5s , solution seems to be fitting an engine from a S type jag

Have to be very careful when buying a D3 to ensure u look over it very well , suppose at the end of the day is it worth it be keep putting money into an old D2

Not driven but had a brief ride in one. Much more refined than the D2 but as you say seemed very different. 4’s and 5’s would require a significant loan which I don’t really want to do. Have already spent way more than the D2 is worth on it but for me it’s more about what it can do than the financial side.

For a half decent D3 ur looking around £6-7k , belts every 7 x years or 105,000 miles , allow £1k

Think really with the D3 onwards if ur going to do the work urself , u need decent diagnostics, multimeter and good set of tools , Bush extractors for the wishbones , which I imagine you’ve already got having the D2

Also as ur not far away and got one and not wishing to sound rude but if u needed a hand with something u would be more than welcome to come here, plenty of room on the drive , all FOC as always as I enjoy making new friends from the forum

I'm not surprised you are thinking about other things if you are only getting 23 mpg out of your TD5. I also only got that with my automatic for a long time, until the MAF was changed for a really good, (and quite expensive) one. Now I do a lot better. Why would you not go for a V8 petrol in either a D2 or a D1? I have one in a D1 and it goes like stink, is easyish to work on etc, etc.
 
I probably wouldn’t swap this D2 for another one as it’s a top spec model and I’ve already got it. Would have to be the holy grail of D2’s for me to swap. I have a nanocom so familiar with the need for that, it’s had lots of use already!

The D1 whilst fantastically straightforward just doesn’t really suit us with car seats etc, I chose to keep the D2 over the D1. I’m sure the bank are wondering why though!

I’ll look at the numbers the MAF is reporting at some point
 
I would buy one in an instant with or without lpg just because there so good and non of the tdv6 problems.
The d3 is so good we just picked up a D3 commercial for my mate john the mobile mechanic seeing as he is a bit of a specialist on these it was about time he had his own.

You can always tell a v8 landrover on the motorway as they are the ones doing 50moh so they can tell anyone that will listen they get nearly 20mpg on a run:D

Seriously my D3 diesel does 20mpg on my daily 5 mile commute, a petrol would be horrific and half that at best.

I ran a merc E class 4.3 v8 as a daily for over a year on my then daily 15 mile commute and that was 20mpg sometimes lower, so add in another ton of weight/4 wheel drive and brick aerodynamics and it aint going to end well.

Wife ran a merc ml320 for a year or two and that ate fuel, town work in the winter lowest I saw on the screen was 7mpg:eek:

Indeed i am, pleased now all the bonnet badges are off, plus that meguiars black bumper restorer is holding up well

Also have got the dashboard out at the moment , sorting the mess out from previous owners, starting to finish all the wiring and ensuring it’s all done properly , someone had wired in a Nokia Bluetooth box for a phone, used insulating tape on the connections and some were just twisted together , so was side cutter time , lol

Added an Aux connector in the heater control, took hours , found the correct loom which should have been fitted in the first place instead of hacking the loom , fitted some drains onto the back of my headlights for the condensation
