Success!!!
I put in a new genuine Bosch sensor and bingo, all sorted! I dropped the battery off for a few hours to lose the adaptive settings then took for a run on pure petrol and its running like a dream
So, to sum up, I'm not sure what killed the original one? Not sure whether the first replacement was duff/cheap fake/or whether the oil I found in the connector had killed it almost immediatley?
My advice to anyone is... release the connector block from the rear of the engine, I guarantee it will be full of oil leaking down from the rocker cover, clean this out first!
Only buy a genuine Bosch replacement (LS5175). Install it hand tight then tighten a 1/4 turn ( as per Bosch instuctions)
I'm going to run it on just petrol for a week or so to allow the ECU to learn the new adaptive settings then get the LPG system tweaked.

Happy days
