Ok guys hope someone might have a idea on what to look at.

My disco normally runs fine on gas and petrol but after it's little swim on Sunday's laning trip it won't run on gas anymore.

The engine was well and truly drowned during it's swim but it still ran and did not stop, left it running when we cleared the puddle and she was idling fine but after a few minutes she died. Started fine on petrol but was running on a random number of cylinders for a while on petrol but would not run on gas, we took off the dissy cap and sprayed everything with that magic solution WD40 and she seemed to run fine on petrol. All afternoon i tried to get it to run on gas, after a while i could hear it clicking as if it wanted to run but then it would die. I hoped the pixie's might have fixed it over night but when i tried again on monday it still would not entertain gas, tonight i went and topped up the tanks just in case (30 litres so it was only half empty and at 85.9 litre ouch). Still won't run on gas, it clicks as if it wants to run but will just die, does not matter if it auto changes or i manually change it over. All the lights on the switch and showing as normal except instead of green when it changes it goes orange.

BRC Single point system BTW.

So any ideas where to start looking?

Yeah i know it was a bit to deep but was fun!!:D

Hi Dean.......is the brain likely to have got water in it.

Can you get someone to listen for the clicks and try changing over after you have blipped the throttle so the engine is coming down from say 2500-3000 rpm.

It sounds like it is not getting gas at all, so it could be that there is water in a relay or if you are really unlucky you may have fried the brain......any chance you have missed a duff connection?

To be honest i don't know, i have only had a brief look in the daylight, it's been dark since and not been able to see anything. The ECU/Brain was a little wet but only sprayed with water not submerged and the connector is fairly well waterproofed.

What are these two items called, they are part of the LPG system. The part A is on the gas feed from the ??(whatever it is called). Part B is on the ??.

What do these do? and could it be one of these faulty.

Hi.

Part A looks like the stepper motor (it's late and i can't remember but will check tomorrow) which alters to control the flow of gas depending on throttle position (and can be adjusted manually.....mine could anyway) and B is the solenoid which when given 12 volts clicks open to allow gas into the air intake (or it's the Vapourisor depnding on whether you have circled the silver bit or what looks like the blue part) but by your description it's a solenoid operated gas flow control valve (for want of a better description).

I had three on my classic.....one on the tank, one on the bulk head and one on the vapourisor and they all have to be open to allow gas to flow to the engine.

You can check them by applying 12v to one side and attaching an earth to the other side (with the ignition off, using some wire you may have lying about. Check first to see if they are marked positive and negative (+ & -) .

Hope that helps for now....time for bed.

Nick.

P.s You can also check their operation by listening for a click and touching them when the car trys to change over to gas

Have you got underslung tanks? If so, I would be tempted to look at that end of the system for a wire off or corroded connection.

Thanks so far guys.

Today in the light I had another look, all the solonoids were clicking on change over and I could hear gas on the change over and for a few seconds after it died. So I looked at the stepper? motor on the gas pipe to the inlet. I took this off and operated it by hand to the open position and tried again. On the change over it ran on gas but a bit rough so I closed the stepper a bit and it ran fine. It seems the stepper is not working by not moving and it being closed was what stopped it running. The lead to it has four wires any idea on what voltages to be checking on these to rule out the feed to this or should I just order a new stepper and hope?

Hi....sorry i don't know about the voltage to it is but you could check to see if it's getting any at all i suppose, hopefully some one will come along and tell us or you could go on an lpg forum or phone a lpg workshop. I will have a look through my paper work for my old kit if it's still here......glad we got somewhere.
