Hi, I’m new here. I’m looking to put a V8 in a 2016 110 d/c high spec as ‘a keeper’. Spoke to JEM re 4.8 RV8 but they only give sketchy info and won’t provide any testimonial or video to the conversion. Any experience here? I’m reluctant to spend £20k without proper information. Can anyone help me me with the pro’s and cons?

I don't know JEM, but I do know Rover/TVR V8 engines...and £20k seems like a mahoosive cost for dropping in a simple FI V8 and R380 gearbox + a bit of fettling to the suspension and brakes. For example, I have a TVR Griffith 4.0 V8 with brand new R380 'box + new Hoyle Suspension/IRS and Brembo/Hi-Spec Motorsport brakes all round + 7.5 Ford Viscous LSD in my Sebring MGB. It cost me £15k in base components and another £2k in ancillaries and some 'trick' bits. It's a very high spec' 170mph set up.

You may like to talk with others who've completed a Landy V8 conversion...have a chat with John Eales for a relatively std 4.2 or 4.6 engine and Ashcroft Transmissions for a new HD R380 gearbox and there's myriad of suspension options [choose carefully]. Ultimately, this is just a Land Rover with a V8 conversion and there's nothing sophisticated/overly complex with this work. Can recommend you talk with Mark Adams at Tornado Systems when it comes to final rolling road set up and the conversion in general https://www.tornadosystems.com/?fbclid=IwAR22ElQWsO92-qlXlAaTTE5layQbzMmsmU8xqclnAiXPy9IptVxR0amYSiw

and talk with the good guys on the V8 forum before you make final decision as to which engine builder you choose https://www.v8forum.co.uk/forum/index.php

I didn't know that it was possible to spend £20K on a Land Rover!

i am over £1500 on my 110 project and that was a good barn find with excellent chassis and bulkhead, daren't think what i have spent on my battered old 90 and that only gets attention pre and post shooting season.

£1500...? Does the decimal point not need moving to the right?

Thanks a lot for this. It’s a pretty high spec and obviously now a pretty high value vehicle. As ‘a keeper’ my thinking was that with the proper JEM/Bowler/ Twisted name attached that the value of the vehicle would be increased to match the admittedly huge spend.

That's great that the Landy's a keeper...but there's often a false cache associated with some of the 'brand' names within Landy circles. The V8 is a great option/conversion and fortunately there are very well established V8 names outside of Land Rover circles who, dare I say this, know the Rover/TVR V8 engines and LT77/R380/Tremec gearboxes far better. When planning this type of conversion it's really worth talking with other folk who've completed the same. The engine and gearbox is the easy part...just make sure the gearbox can handle the combined vehicle weight and engine torque.

The hard part is a correct suspension and brake set up. Having a 300-350bhp fire breathing dragon is a nightmare if it won't go round corners and/or stop properly + you don't want the suspension so hard it shakes the Landy to bits. It's really worth spending some time thinking about the conversion objective, precisely what you want from the Land Rover. Then, spec' the engine and gearbox, then the suspension set up and braking spec'. Then all the ancillaries needed to make the overall package work...these components are very important - battery, starter motor, alternator, ignition type, exhaust, engine cooling, suspension bushing, suspension arms et al. It's would be good to talk with Gwyn Lewis, his website has very well thought through Landy parts https://gwynlewis4x4.co.uk/
