Hi All,

Could anyone please tell me the thread size & pitch of the wheel-arch fuel filter on a D1 V8?

Part number is ESR4065M - (M for Mahle).
KL158 is the Mahle part number.

I need to buy some fuel line adapters to screw into this filter and provide me with a standard 8mm male shaft for the fuel hose & crimp clip fitment. Hopefully that makes sense. The thread is bigger than any of the taps I have available. I think it's the same size thread on the input and output sides.

did some more digging.... a few online parts sites say that both sides are M16 x 1.5 - this look about right from what I can see from the filter itself. Can anyone confirm this? A lot of these online parts paces just parrot the same old defunct info as a.n.other site, round and round in circles.

As I'v just replaced my filter and found its a 5/8" AF spanner that fits the gland, so I'd think the sizes u required would be imperial.

As you can see, the blue thing is being used as a reducer from m16x1.5 (filter) to -6jic. Then the silver bit is -6jic to male 8mm tail.

My question now is, how can I seal these fittings? Both to each other, and the blue adapter to the filter body. The screw thread itself won't be water tight, and I assume PTFE is both pikey and not fuel safe. The inside of the silver piece is shaped actually, like a flare on a brake pipe, so perhaps that will seal that end of it.

All very bling :) the as left the factory fuel filter glands have O rings located in a machined groove which compress and seal, made no doubt with a material impervious to petrol.

The blue adaptor which is tapered may make a compression seal with the silver hose connector but then maybe as its alloy it may not, therefore a mechanical seal is required... an O ring at the base or some thing thicker like a tap washer which can also be compressed, again either must obviously petrol proof.

As both ends of the blue adaptor require a seal perhaps the "tap washer" style of seal is best, There maybe a purpose made item somewhere.. although would try it a off cut from a fuel hose say 5mm thick placed in the holes and the adaptor tightened up on to it, hopefully that would a long term solution untill the filter is changed in the future.

Personally I would forget using the LR style filter and go for the modern push 'quick fit filter' and the connectors that go with it are available.:)
 
Thanks both. Tap washer being a flat, internal washer I'm assuming?

What's a dowty washer James? Will a copper washer go inside the fitting and crush up against the face of the male adapter?
 
Ok. The adapter fitting doesnt nip up anywhere near far enough for a copper washer then. Tap washer it must be... but in some sort of fuel-safe material. Is that dowty washer an internal thing? Never seen one of those!
 
looks to me like the simplest solution is still a fuel-proof tap washer. both side of the blue adapter mate internally, not exernally, so I'm feeling that that's what I should work with.

a bit of research on fuel-proof washer materials next. I remember having to do this for technical scuba diving - researching oxygen-safe o-rings.

tapered end is self sealing which is why its tapered
 
so, on further research, it seems I need a viton washer (fuel safe rubber) in tap/hose style.

according to the verniers, the exact dimensions are 14.2mm OD and 9.6mm ID. In reality I hope I can find something with a 13 or 14mm OD and a 10mm ID.
 
M16x1.5 is standard bolt size for fuel filter banjos is it not?
A bolt, a banjo and 2 copper washers, proper job!
 
I can't do links and stuff, sorry. Look on eBay for pics of banjos and banjo bolts. You don't need the stuff you've got and the banjo outlets can be 6,8,10mm to suit your fuel line size.
 
Okay with a carburettor, but a V8 EFI wants all the high pressure fuel it can get and so an unrestricted straight through connection at the filter, I would have thought.
