Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my v8 disco 2. I have a coolant leak I have to fix, but another thing brought my attention. I started to experience a high engine temperature when driving. It came to the stage when I no longer use my beloved Landy, because I am afraid of overheating her. The strange thing is that when I start the engine, the temperature gauge goes half way up straight away. From there it goes only higher when driving, or left idling for a while. Even when just sitting on the car park for couple of days... Is it possible that there is no overheating problem, but just my temp. sensor went wrong? I am planning to replace it anyway, but to do that I would have to drive some miles...

any ideas?

Well, I had to drive it back home when the temp was reaching red zone. I tried to keep it below, but it flashed red light a couple of times...

If the gauge is giving a reading when engine is cold there is a fault with either the sender unit, the gauge itself or possibly a poor engine to body earth,if you have access to diagnostic equipment it might pay to look at the live data readings and see what temp the ecu is seeing

Thank you. I will definitely replace few elements (water pump, thermostat and temp sensor) and see what happens next. Is there a fuse on a temp sensor?

Yes, it actually is driving better than before. With the old sensor, even before she started showing overheating, she was choking and she was dying on cold engine after start. Had to start her a few times before she worked fine (sort of). I am guessing that ECU wouldn't know the actual engines temperature and wouldn't apply choke. Or something else. It's fine now :)
