I have been thinking of getting a v6 freelander as a second car for my wife, but I have been offred a v8, 4.0 auto discovery. I am just wondering what MPG it will acctualy do in the real world of school runs a shopping trips, 95% of its use will be under 5miles, with a total of no more than 75 mile a week. I am guessing 18mpg ish? I am not to intested in a LPG conv. and dont want to pay big money for a TD5.

From what i have heard / seen, you are talking more along the lines of 14/15mpg.

hi mate , ive just baught a v8 discovery 2 it does about 45 miles on a tenner when the wife drives it, and about 35 miles when i do, but its super smoth and got loads of grunt and you can get em verry cheap, i paid UNDER 5 k for mine its a 99 t reg es full leather and all the toys, my thaught is you can put a lot of petroll in em for wot you save on a td , cheers dan

We had a V8I, had it converted to LPG for £1500 lot cheaper to fill, around town on LPG approx 120m for £23.
Small loss of power but I got me motorbike for speeding.

Depends a lot on how/where you drive. I get about 14mpg normally out of my 3.9 V8, but can be all the way up to 19mpg!! on a Motorway drive

ffs i must be doing something wrong, i only get about 18 out of my tdi, ah well, sounds like a good excuse to swap her for a new un
