I am looking at buying another series land rover and the owner has the old style v5 in the previous owners name and he said when he sent it off to dvla a couple of years ago to get it in his name the dvla said he would need to get it MOT'd before they would issue a new one as it's been off the road for so long has anyone ever heard of this before?

Yes , needs an mot before he can sell it!!
Can I buy it and the get an MOT myself and the apply for a V5? You see lots of cars on ebay that have old style v5 will these need to get MOT'S then?
Does anyone know where there is any info on this?

Sounds like bull**** to me. I've bought bikes before that have been off the road years, never had this. My 110 hadn't been MOTed for 9 years - no problem. What about sll these vehicles on eBay with no MOT?

Sounds crap to me - my MOT guy just reads VIN off chassis plate if I don't have previous MOT or V5 with me - if you like the landy and price is right just buy it and apply for V5 - cost you £25.00.................... Have you checked it at VOSA online? If it comes up - it's "live" on their system.............................
